An intermediate switch is one that allows you to control a light from several locations. It’s also called a three-way switch. If you need to operate the lights from three different locations, such as three entrances to a huge room with a light switch adjacent to each one, you’ll need an intermediary switch. The lights can be turned on and off from any of three places.
